VASC Seminar Announcement ========================= Date: Monday, 10/30/00 Time: 3:30-4:40 Place: NSH 3002 Speaker: J. Michael Rollins, Hernandez Engineering, NASA-JSC Hybrid Vision Laboratory Title: Photogrammetric Pose Estimation in Space Station Construction Construction of the Space Station chiefly involves the docking of prefabricated modules. To this end, circular fiducial marks (spots) have been placed at multiple positions about each module. Knowledge of the spot positions from spacecraft design in conjuction with images of the spots from the flight cameras during docking provide a way to assess the relative pose of the berthing and "stationary" modules while they are being connected. Using flight imagery, spots must be detected and their centroids in image coordinates must be estimated to sub-pixel accuracy. Correlation provides a means of assessing object positions to high accuracy. Spot detection methods and a sub-pixel accurate correlation method will be discussed and sample results for actual flight images will be given.
