Experiences with Video Information Retrieval using the Informedia System

This talk describes our experiences with the Informedia System in the TREC
Video Retrieval Track.
The TREC (Text REtrieval Conferences) have generally been focused on
standard text retrieval, with recent excursions into OCR and spoken document
retrieval. The Video retrieval experiments mark the first time that a
national standard evaluation of video retrieval systems has been performed.
The Informedia system performed exceedingly well in these evaluations, but
there is still a long way to go. I will give examples of the types of
questions, our approaches to retrieval and an analysis what worked and what
didn't.
