VASC Seminar Announcement ========================= Speakers: Rahul & Gita Sukthankar Affiliation: HP Labs - Cambridge Research Laboratory E-mail: {rahuls,gitars}@cs.cmu.edu Date: Monday, June 10th Time: 3:30pm Place: NSH 1507 Appointments: Carol Boshears Title: Smart Projectors: Computer Vision for Projected Displays Abstract: We present methods for enhancing projected displays using computer vision. Visual feedback in camera-projector systems enables us to solve problems that are traditionally difficult in passive camera settings. This talk focuses on three issues: geometric alignment, photometric correction and user interfaces for projected displays. We illustrate our ideas with three practical systems: (1) a self-calibrating presentation system that allows users to place the projector anywhere in the room and control the presentation using a laser pointer or handheld computer; (2) a display that uses redundant lighting from several micro-portable projectors to dynamically eliminate shadows cast by the user; (3) an algorithm for automatically aligning tiled multi-projector displays walls of arbitrary size. For more information see http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rahuls/Research/Projector/ Acknowledgments: The smart presentation system was developed in collaboration with Robert Stockton and Matthew Mullin at Just Research. Dynamic shadow elimination and occluder light suppresssion research was in collaboration with Tat-Jen Cham and Jim Rehg at Compaq Research. The display wall alignment work is in collaboration with Han Chen, Grant Wallace and Kai Li from the Scalable Display Wall Group at Princeton University.
